GRANGEVILLE — With Tori Ebert hawking CV’s Connor Jackson, GHS outscored Clearwater Valley 75-17 on Thursday night, Jan. 7. Blake Schoo (17), Caleb Frei (10), Dane Lindsley (10) and Reece Wimer (10) all scored double-figures. Jackson (7) booked CV’s team-high.

OROFINO — Hope Schwartz (13 points), Madison Shears (10) outscored Orofino 22-7 during the first quarter Jan. 7 and 50-38 for the contest.

KOOSKIA — With the JV game canceled, the Clearwater Valley varsity girls will host Potlatch at noon on Saturday, Jan. 9.

Effective defense plus clutch shooting turned Grangeville’s Dec. 29 trip to Lewiston into another Bulldogs win, as Camden Barger (16 points) and Bailey Vanderwall (15) led the GHS girls past the hosts of a two-day tournament that was set up in lieu of the annual Avista Holiday Tournament.

Hunters wanting to participate in this spring’s controlled hunts for black bear can apply from January 15 through February 15.

Clearwater Valley is on to visit Grangeville at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 then Potlatch at 6 p.m. Jan. 8. Kamiah visits Logos at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8. Prairie hosts Timberline Jan. 8, Troy Jan. 9 and Kamiah at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14.

COTTONWOOD — Early last season, the Prairie football team lost one of its top players to a devastating injury when reigning 1AD1 “player of the year” Cole Martin went down. The Pirates didn’t know the full extent of that injury until after their game at Clearwater Valley.

Before school sports shut down due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, basketball teams from across Idaho gathered in the Boise-area for the annual state tournaments. The top-placing 2020 tournament teams in the area — the runner-up Prairie girls and the consolation finalist Kamiah boys — are pictured.

KAMIAH — The Kubs played undefeated Lapwai within six points during the first half Dec. 17, but the Wildcats extended their lead after halftime and went on to win 59-44. Jace Sams scored 16 for KHS, while Terrell Ellenwood-Jones (22 points) and Titus Yearout (21) paced Lapwai.
