Michael John Caughran, 62, of Kamiah, Idaho, went to be with his Lord at his home, surrounded by his family on Feb. 11, 2021, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Michael was born in San Pablo, Calif., on Sept. 4, 1958, to John Patrick Caughran and Sandra Caughran. He graduated from DeAnza High School in El Sobrante, Calif., in 1976. While serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise, from 1976-1980, Michael bowed his knee to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Michael graduated magna cum laude from California State University Chico with a BS in Computer Engineering in 1990.
Michael worked for Hewlett Packard and Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley where he earned a patent. Michael married Cynthia Elaine Adams on Aug. 16, 1986, in Tahoe City, Calif. When their two children, Mikayla and Patrick were born, Michael promised Cindy they would raise their family in rural America. The Lord providentially led them to Kamiah, Idaho, where they have lived happily for the past 22 ½ years. Michael was employed at Clearwater County as Emergency Management Coordinator, AAA Precision Tool in Orofino, Idaho, and Idaho Correction Institution Orofino, where he served as a Correctional Officer and as a member of the Crisis Negotiations Team.
Michael’s diligence and self-sacrificing attitude endeared him to his coworkers. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed homeschooling his children, and loved his children and grandchildren, but his passion was studying the Bible and Puritan writers, learning more about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, of 34 ½ years; son, Patrick of Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Wash.; son-in-law and daughter, Zachary and Mikayla Black of Colville, Wash.; grandchildren: Wyatt, Ezekiel and Abigail; two brothers, Dennis (Ghalia) Caughran of Santa Maria, Calif., and Ken (Lisa) Caughran of Sacramento, Calif., as well as an aunt, uncle, cousins and a niece.
Condolences for the family may be left at firstname.lastname@example.org.
