Gloria Hisaw

Gloria Hisaw.

Gloria Jean Abernathy Hisaw was born Sept. 26, 1947, in Henderson, Texas. She passed this life peacefully on Sept. 5, 2021, at her Clayton Texas home. Jean was one of three children born to the marriage of George Daniel and Ouida June Hightower Abernathy. She was raised and schooled in Carthage, Texas, graduating with the Bulldog class of 1966 and attended Panola College. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Wayne Hisaw, on Sept. 9, 1967, and they celebrated 49 years together before he preceded her in death in 2016. Jean was also preceded in death by her father.

Her memory will be cherished by those left behind: her mother, June Abernathy of Clayton; brother, Ronny Abernathy and wife, Jo of The Colony; sister, Terri Reed and husband, Richard of Clayton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Jean lived in Kamiah, Idaho for more than 20 years with her wonderful and loving husband, Jim. She enjoyed being a part of the community and was loved by so many. Jean was an avid quilter, creating more than 1,000 quilts on her machine and was very involved with the Central Idaho Quilters. Jean was passionate about providing quilts for our veterans. After her husband passed away, she returned to her family in Texas. With her strong faith in the Lord, Jean resumed attendance at the First Baptist Church of Carthage where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She fought cancer courageously and remained a light in the midst of her battle. She will truly be missed.

It was Jean’s wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Central Idaho Quilters to continue creating quilts to honor our veterans. Gifts in Jean’s memory may be sent to: Central Idaho Quilters, P.O. Box 582, Kamiah ID 83536.
