David M. Hunt, age 64, of Kamiah, Idaho, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, following a brief illness.
David was born on Feb. 21, 1957, in Logan, Ohio, to Garry and Mary Hunt. He was raised in a Christian home, and was the eldest of six children. He trusted Christ as his savior at age 6, and at the age of 16, surrendered to the call of ministry, dedicating his life to serving the Lord Jesus Christ. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, Flo., where he received a bachelor’s degree in ministry. After graduating from Baptist Bible Institute, he spent the next 39+ years serving as Senior Pastor of five churches: Saville Baptist Church in Saville, Ala, First Southern Baptist Church of Pomeroy, Ohio, Salem Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, Brookside Baptist Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Kamiah.
Prior to entering college, he met Linda Mayhew, and they were married in May of 1978. Linda passed away of cancer in 2010, after which David met Ruth Swanson, and they were married in 2012. They continued to serve the Lord together in Kamiah, until his death. He was a man of God who was faithful to the Lord and his family. He was also an avid gun collector and enjoyed target shooting, hunting, and fishing whenever he got the chance.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garry Hunt; mother, Mary (Oney) Hunt; first wife, Linda (Mayhew) Hunt; son, Jeremy Hunt; and brother, Chris Hunt.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Hunt; children: Michael (Jennifer) Hunt, Christy (Jason) Rowland, two stepsons: Caleb Matteson, and Holin Matteson (Sunny); brothers, Randy (Renia) Hunt, Brian Hunt, John Hunt; sister, Diane (Michael) Worch; 15 grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 108 Pine Road, Kamiah, with Pastor Dan Coburn officiating.
