KAMIAH — Mayor Betty Heater, Council President Dan Millward and councilors Genese Simler and James Kelly attended the July 14 city of Kamiah regular city council meeting. The seat formerly held by Stephen Rowe remains vacant.
The council approved the consent agenda including paying monthly and interim bills totaling $116,347.95, a business advertising license for Rocky Ridge LLC, an alcoholic beverage catering permit for the Kamiah Kiwanis Club Poker Run and Valley View Nazarene Church’s request to hold “church in the park” on Sunday, Aug. 1.
“We had a workshop to revisit the (bulk) water rates,” said Heater, referring to a discussion prior to the council meeting. (The issue was tabled at the June 23 council meeting because of concerns from Millward.) Heater said that she and the councilors agreed to keep it simple, proposing to charge 3 cents per cubic foot for residents and 4 cents per cubic foot for commercial and large commercial uses. She will put it on the agenda for the next council meeting to proceed with those increases, which will include public notice and hearing.
Heater provided an update on the boat ramp project. The restroom is scheduled for installation on July 29. An archaeologist will be on site to monitor the digging on July 28.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 28 at city hall and is open to the public. The meeting is also available on the city of Kamiah’s Facebook page.
