Both libraries in Kamiah and Kooskia will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 for the holiday. Plan ahead to browse or pick up items before to avoid disappointment. Call Kamiah Community Library at 208-935-0428, or Kooskia Community Library at 208-926-4539 for details.

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the Kamiah library has a display in the branch featuring new and old Indigenous authors, including local perspectives of the Nimiipuu. Read about their experiences in print, or check out the digital audiobooks and ebooks available to download with the Libby app. There’s a section devoted to Indigenous authors at the top, including Stephen Graham Jones, Vine Deloria, Louise Erdrich, Tommy Orange, David Heska Wanbli Weiden, Rebecca Roanhorse, Terese Marie Mailhot and more.

Masks are still required to enter all Prairie River Library District branches. If you don’t have one, one can be provided. Help keep our library workers safe by complying with their requests for mask wearing and keeping your distance. Those who can’t wear a mask can be served by no-contact curbside delivery of items. Call either branch to order materials, or if you have Internet access, you can request your own materials at prld.org. Library cards are free and include access to over 50 area Valnet branches through a daily courier service. However, incoming items from the courier go into quarantine for one week before becoming available to pick up, so plan ahead when ordering.
