Citizens question trustees about staff fluctuation

     The Kamiah School Board got an earful from concerned patrons about the recent exodus of teachers and staff from the district.

     Approximately 30 people attended a regular school board meeting June 20, several of whom expressed apprehension regarding the loss of district staff.

Nine teachers and/or staff have either retired/resigned or left the district for positions elsewhere.

Davisons rebuild their nest, birdhouse 

     Fred and Kim Davison are settling into their recently rebuilt Woodland home after wildfire gutted their house last summer. Some of the emotions from that fiery August week continue to smolder, but they credit an overwhelmingly supportive and caring community as the salve for helping heal the wounds.6-23-16-fred-and-kim-daviso

     For six months after the fire Kim could not will herself to visit the home site. She wasn’t sure she wanted to live there again. The charcoal stumps of once towering pine trees and the leftover blackness everywhere were troubling reminders not only of what was lost, but even more terrifying, of what was nearly lost.

‘Cougar’ saves baby, older brother...and drunk driver who hit him head on


     The urgent knock on the door in the pre-dawn hours on that Saturday morning would usually have gone unanswered. On most weekends, Jim Reilly (pictured) would have been at his cabin about 12 miles northwest, above Kooskia.

     The persistent pounding, at 3:30 a.m., gave rise to fears of a sleepless malice lurking on the other side of the door at the trailer park off U.S. 12 at Camp Arrow Head.

     On that March 5 morning, however, Reilly was still there. He didn’t yet know why, but he was about to find out.
