Proud of a pioneer heritage8-7-14-jim-emmert

As a child Jim Emmert used to sit on his grandfather's lap and hear eye-popping stories about horses, trips to the woods and harrowing times his pioneering ancestors faced.

His grandfather Roy Randall ran a freight wagon into Elk City and Dixie. He hauled mining equipment into the Buffalo Hump country, among many other ventures. Sometimes the snows were so deep that he affixed snowshoes on the horses' hooves to get through the drifts.

Five generations of Jim Emmert's family have called Kamiah home. Emmert, a native son of Kamiah, said he has lived a golden life here. Ben Jorgensen/Progress
