Carelessness leads to hefty repairs Print E-mail

Towelettes could prove costly to Stites residents

S4-24-14--stites-lift-stationtites city residents could face hefty repair costs to their wastewater system if customers continue flushing towelettes and hand wipes.

The wipes do not break down in the system but instead clog up the city's lift station threatening to destroy the pump.

This pile of non disposable wipes and towelettes was recently pulled from the Stites Lift Station. City officials worry that the station's pump will be destroyed by the wipes, leading to costly repairs for all residents. Contributed by Jim Kirchoff
